Modalities
The session starts with a consultation to set an intention for your treatment. This could anything from releasing specific areas of tension to helping you get a better nights sleep.
During the treatment I work to find and release tension held throughout the body, using natural oils or water based lotion, deep tissue massage and stretching of connective tissue followed by energy release work with reiki where appropriate.
Sport & Deep Tissue Massage
Increasing blood flow and fluid movement throughout the body, deep tissue release of long held knots, tight muscles and joints. Increasing mobility and oxygenation of tissue, reducing tension and imbalance. Neuromuscular release ensures muscles do not instantly return to the learnt state of tension.
Medical Acupuncture
Medical acupuncture is an adaptation of Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture, combining the ancient knowledge with modern evidence based medical tests. It acts by stimulating the nervous system to treat a wide range of conditions including musculoskeletal pain, myofascial trigger point pain, post-operative recovery, fatigue, chronic pain and many other physical and neurological concerns.
Dry Needling
Similar to medical acupuncture in that very fine needles are inserted into tissue, however the aim of dry needling is to locate knots, 'trigger points', and create a release of deep tissue which is either not possible manually or too painful for those living with chronic pain, recovering from surgery or with very tight muscles.
Assisted Stretching
Elongation of tissue and connective tissue keeps muscles and joints utilising the full range of motion available. Without it, muscles become shorter with less elasticity, becoming more prone to injury and stiff joints.
Myofascial Release
Your myofascial tissue is a network of tissue that spreads throughout your entire body. It connects your muscles, joints, and bones. It also provides support to your organs, helping to keep them in place. During a myofascial release massage, I am feeling the myofascial tissue for areas that are particularly stiff and tight. These are the places that cause you to feel pain, even if it's radiating to other areas.
Neuromuscular Release
Trigger point therapy is a neuromuscular therapy designed to speed up recovery from injury, correct muscular imbalances and relieve pain. The muscle will be stretched then pressure is applied to areas of muscle tightness or 'knots'. This helps to relive muscle tension and promote healing.
Lymphatic Drainage
Your lymphatic system is part of your immune system, it helps eliminate waste from the body and fight infection.
Lymphatic drainage is a very gentle technique which helps the body maintain proper blood circulation, body fluid balance, and immune functions. Surgery, medical conditions and other damage can cause fluids to build up in your lymph system and your lymph nodes.
Treatment is done without any oils, pushing and pulling fluid to the nodes and assisting the drainage process.
Reiki
'Rei' Universal 'Ki' flow of energy in all living things
To be honest I was sceptical about this until I had it done without knowing what it was and had such an intensely strong emotional response to it I had to learn how to help other people feel it too
Reiki therapy originated in Japan, based on Eastern medicine understandings of the vital energy that flows through your body, the reiki therapist helps to guide this energy in a way that leads to balance and healing.
